Podium Place

To the facility for bespoke bodywork detailing, we obtained the required planning permission & managed the construction of two purpose built units.

“We lowered the whole floor & incorporated turntables with lighting effects. To ensure maximum visibility from the street scene & access for the vehicles, we designed a series of large, interactive sliding glass panels.”

The Brief: The owners of Podium Place have two passions, cars & coffee. We were engaged to design & manage the conversion of 1970s warehouse & office building to provide a space to accommodate a facility for the sales, garage workshop & bespoke detailing of modern classic sports cars, from rare Ferraris, Aston Martins, Bentleys & the like, combined with a cafe area to provide freshly ground specialist coffees roasted on site.

Project Challenges: The main challenge for the showroom area was to achieve the most effective display of the spectacular cars.

Our Work: To this end, we lowered the whole floor & incorporated turntables with lighting effects. To ensure maximum visibility from the street scene & access for the vehicles, we designed a series of large, interactive sliding glass panels.

The Outcome: To provide the facility for bespoke bodywork detailing, we obtained the required planning permission & managed the construction of two purpose built units. The design of the garage workshop area incorporated a large mezzanine floor to accommodate offices & hospitality area.

Attington Stud

The building style blends modern country and classical features, like the angled support pillars. The design includes a curved mezzanine that connects to the master suite via a bridge, allowing for a tall space above the lounge.

“An important element of the design was the optimisation of the spectacular landscape.”

The Brief: We were instructed by the owners of Attington Stud Estate to design and project manage the demolition of an existing bungalow and the construction of a replacement dwelling for occupation by the Stud Manager.

Project Challenges: The site is situated in an elevated position, with extensive views over the open countryside. An important element of the design was the optimisation of the spectacular landscape.

Our Work: The architectural style employed is a balance of new country and classical features. The layout incorporates a curved mezzanine with a connecting bridge to access the master suite, which allows full height element above the lounge.

The Outcome: The accommodation is designed to meet the specific requirements of the occupant

“The local authority nominated the project for inclusion into the LABC Building Excellence Awards where we a achieved Regional Finalist status”

The Brief: We were approached by the owners of a large country house, to produce a design for the conversion of a derelict Victorian Coach House into a guest annex.

Project Challenges: The feasibility study uncovered a planning constraint which required as much of the original fabric of the building to remain as possible. Due the structural instability, we produced a design based around an internal steel frame.

Our Work: We worked with the local authority planning and building control departments to produce a compliant scheme.

The Outcome: The local authority nominated the project for inclusion into the LABC Building Excellence Awards where we achieved Regional Finalist status

We would like to thank the clients for their cooperation and approachability throughout the project.

Hesters Cottage

Hesters Cottage started life as a terrace of three cottages, which over time had been converted to provide a single dwelling. The property enjoys spectacular views of the Chiltern Hills.

“The property is situated within the Conservation Area and as such special planning consideration was given to the impact on the existing building.”

The Brief: Hesters Cottage started life as a terrace of three cottages, which over time had been converted to provide a single dwelling. The property enjoys spectacular views of the Chiltern Hills. The brief was to provide a two-storey extension to provide an extra lounge and a library area, which would optimise the views.

Project Challenges: The property is situated within the Conservation Area and as such special planning consideration was given to the impact on the existing building.

Our Work: It was important that the proposed extension did not reduce the amount of lighting to the centre of the existing building. To this end, it was decided to use an oak and glass structure which allowed the existing building to be opened up and remodelled. The glazed areas to the elevations were designed to reflect the surrounding trees and vegetation. The library was provided on a mezzanine area above the new lounge and the existing garden was landscaped as part of the project.

The Outcome: We have subsequently been engaged by the new owners to design a new front porch and hallway remodel.

Mallards Court

The owners of a large country house requested a design for an extension and alterations to create an extra lounge, garden room, kitchen, and a master bedroom suite with a balcony. The existing home features early Victorian architecture, with part of the basement dating back to medieval times.

“We worked with a local brickworks to produce bricks which were laid in a Flemish bond with mortar to exactly match the existing. A local joinery company produced windows and doors to exactly match the style of the existing fenestration.”

The Brief: We were approached by the owners of a large country house, to produce a design for an extension and alterations to form an extra lounge, garden room, kitchen and a master bedroom suite with balcony. The existing dwelling was constructed in early Victorian style, with part of the basement dating back to mediaeval times.

Project Challenges: The brief was to produce an addition which would empathise with the existing dwelling, whist providing open plan, light filled accommodation. It was important that the new extension, blend seamlessly with the original building.

Our Work: We worked with a local brickworks to produce bricks which were laid in a Flemish bond with mortar to exactly match the existing. A local joinery company produced windows and doors to exactly match the style of the existing fenestration.

The Outcome: I have previously designed and constructed the main entrance gate in brick and flint with coffered niches.
